Reinhard Heydrich Hat

These images of the hat show the before and after application of the White piping and braid. Acrylics were applied to the areas that would eventually be painted White. The bottom image shows the rather sloppy application while the top image shows the finished piece. Black oils were used to clean up the edges. I find this method much easier than trying to stay within the lines so to speak when painting detail like this. Especially if the base color is Black. Black will cover anything.

Reinhard Heydrich

Started painting in the details of the tunic. The armband is complete as well as the tiny party pin. This is a 90mm figure so painting the little swastika on the pin wasn't something I was looking forward to. My intention was to use the artists trick of suggestion. This is where you paint in the details as best you can. Since most people know what the shape is the viewer gets tricked into thinking they see what belongs there. Confused? Anyway, I was extremely lucky being able to paint in the swastika. Probably won't be able to do that again. The enlarged view makes it look a bit sloppy but when you consider it's actual size it's pretty darn good.

Reinhard Heydrich Oil's

Started applying the oil's to the upper part of the figure. Winsor/Newton Lamp Black was used as a base mixed with a touch of Titanium White. Limited highlighting was done so not to take away from the Black uniform worn by the SS at this time. The glare will go away once the oil's are dry and Dullcote applied. The armband is partly done with only the Red oil's needed to complete it once the Black of the uniform is completely dry. Otherwise there could be an unwanted mix of colors.

Reinhard Heydrich Face

The face has been painted with Testors enamels. I apply this with an airbrush and allow it to cure for about a week before applying the oils. The whites of the eyes are acrylic.

Reinhard Heydrich Underpaint

This view shows the tunic under-painted with Black acrylics. The shirt and tie have been painted with oils at this stage.
